摘要

•We investigated accumulated S sourced from historical air pollution in Ijira soils.•Ijira soils contained more S than other comparable soils in central Japan.•Stabilized (mineral-associated) organic S accounted for half of the accumulated S.•HRXRF and isotope analyses showed that S was transformed or cycled in the soils.•Mineral-associated organic S was accumulated in various oxidation states.
