A Study on the Quality Prediction Model Using ELMs in Plasma Cutting Process

In the manufacturing industry, cutting is the first and the most basic process that is performed to obtain a material in a desired shape. Because the surface quality of the material presented by the cutting process can affect the quality of subsequent processes such as welding or painting, a high-quality cut surface is essential. This study aimed to develop a model to predict the roughness of the cut surface in the plasma cutting process. ASTM A106 Gr. B steel pipe was used, and the arc current and cutting speed were selected as process variables for the cutting experiment. Based on the ELMs, a surface roughness prediction model according to the process variables was developed, and the performance of the prediction model was confirmed by comparing the experimental values according to the process variables with the predicted values using the prediction model.
