摘要
Multiplexing concepts like WDM and DWDM are being employed for effective utilization of fiber bandwidth. Wavelength conversion at key network nodes can allow the deployment of these technologies in addition to wavelength routing, contention resolution and it makes the networks all-optical communication networks. Cross polarization modulation (XPolM) is used in wideband semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA) to implement all-optical wavelength converter (AOWC) as SOAs offer the necessary nonlinearity. In this paper, the effectiveness of CSRZ-DPSK data format in wavelength conversion is assessed for the data rate of 80 Gbps. The input pump power dependent polarization rotation of the signal is demonstrated. Input pump power of -12 dBm which falls in the sub-mW range and the bias current of 260 mA in SOA are optimized numerically. Error free all-optical wavelength conversion is achieved with BER of 2.25 × 10 − 117 along with the Q factor of 66.2. The investigation is extended for both up and down conversions and the proposed system works well for up conversion relatively. The numerical simulations expose that the optical CSRZ-DPSK data modulation has better jitter tolerance than the optical OOK and has insignificant phase noise.
