ENANTIOSELECTIVE SYNTHESIS OF UNSATURATED gamma-LACTAMS

As a part of several natural products and bioactive molecules, the development of new synthetic methods to obtain gamma-lactams has drawn attention during the last years. Dihydropyrrolidin-2-ones represent a particular case of unsaturated gamma-lactams which can be used in both, organic and medicinal chemistry and thus, the development of efficient methodologies for their preparation has an additional value. Considering the relevance of optically active molecules in medicinal chemistry, in this review, the existing catalytic asymmetric methods to obtain enantioenriched pyrrolidin-2-ones are summarized.
