Reconstruction of the paleoenvironment of the late Quaternary sediments of the Kerala coast, SW India

•Sediments of the Kerala coast are deposited under terrigenous to littoral with diverse energy regime.•Depositional landforms; estuary, lagoon, and paleo-strandline are carved by sea-level changes.•Stronger monsoon in the early Holocene and a weaker in the Last Glacial Maximum was observed.•Along the Kerala coast, the paleo-shoreline is 9.5 km landward from the present-day shoreline.•A conceptual sediment depositional model is proposed for the evolution of the Kerala coast.
