•Two sympatric species of Spathiphyllum produce different scent compounds.•Most pollinators are Hymenopterans, especially pollen-collecting bees.•Contrary to expectations, male euglossine bees were not the main pollinators.•Differences in the pollinator spectrum are probably related to growth habit and the habitat of the plants.
