摘要

•Volatile matter (VM) showed a nonlinear effect on the EFs of PM2.5.•The difference between PM2.5 EFs and VM was related to tar oxidation from stage 1.•Char reaction in the whole coal combustion process lengthened with the coal maturity.•Compared with SO2, correlation between NOx and VM was more significantly (R = 0.92, p < 0.01).
