Hypervelocity impact of anorthosite: Excavation, spallation and crater reconstruction

摘要
•11 hypervelocity shots were made at 1.8–6.7 km/s with steel projectiles impacting anorthosite.•Three impact phases identified: flash, excavation and spall.•Parabolic, hyperbolic and power law crater shapes evaluated: hyperbolic provides best fit.•Pre-spall crater shape was reconstructed using Monte Carlo simulation.•Reconstructed excavation craters have velocity independent shapes and depth-diameter ratios.
