Preparation of hydrotalcite crystals using impinging jet mixers

•Impinging jet mixers were studied for the first time to the preparation of hydrotalcite crystals.•The crystals were large and of high purity and uniform size distribution and shape.•The hydrotalcite crystals were higher quality than crystals made by batch stirred tanks.•The mechanism of the reactive crystallization is explored and discussed.
