•In-situ studies of the magnetostructural PTs at high magnetic fields have been carried out.•The main cause of the irreversible MCE is the residual martensite.•The width of the region of the irreversible MCE does not depend on the magnetic field.•The region of reversible MCE is above the austenite finish temperature.•The disappearance of the temperature hysteresis was predicted based on Landau theory.
