Abstract
•The optimum fabrication parameters of WAAM process were determined for the AZ61 alloy.•The excellent mechanical properties were attained with strength of 260 Pa and elongation of 16.2%.•The mechanical performance of present AZ61 alloy behaves superior to that of other WAAM Mg alloys.•The fine grains and limited defects contribute to the exceptional mechanical properties.
