•Shock wave/jet shear layer interaction approach improves the mixing efficiency effectively.•Mixing speed increases with the increase of the intensity of the shock wave.•The presence of the induced shock waves reduces the total pressure recovery coefficient.•The mixing enhancement mechanism is provided.
