Synthesis of paramylon ester-graft-PLA copolymers and its two-step enzymatic degradation by proteinase K and β-1,3-glucanase

•Paramylon ester-graft-PLA were synthesized from low DS paramylon esters and lactide.•The graft copolymers exhibited thermoplasticity to give melt-pressed films.•The graft copolymers were successfully degraded by two-step enzymatic degradation.•PLA side-chains of the copolymers were degraded by proteinase K in 7 days.•Remaining low DS paramylon backbone was also degraded by β-1,3-glucanase.
