Abstract
ObjectiveTo evaluate if there is a temporal trend in the fall of semen parameters in Indian men with and without male factor infertility as a deterioration in semen quality can contribute to a drop in fertility rates.Materials and MethodsWHO 2010 reference parameters were used to analyse semen samples of males with male factor (Group A) and non-male factor infertility (Group B). This data was obtained from couples visiting our centre from 2011 to 2020 and covered 6807 men. Parameters studied were count, motility, progressive motility and morphology. The same technologists have performed the semen analysis at our centre over these years. The significance was calculated using chi square for trend analysis.ResultsTabled 12011201220132014201520162017201820192020N =276750804668732765838871823280Count% casesMale factor30.424.132.73730.930.832.734.242.337.9Non male factor69.375.967.36369.169.267.365.857.762.1Motility% casesMale factor71.771.780.581.379.891.286.38994.790.4Non male factor28.328.319.518.720.28.813.7115.39.6Progressive motility% casesMale factor82.291.795.689.788.999.298.696.898.896.4Non male factor17.88.34.410.311.10.81.43.21.23.6Morphology% casesMale factor22.57.213.422.419.523.933.927.861.457.9Non male factor77.592.886.677.680.576.166.172.238.642.1 Open table in a new tab A significant increase in percentage of men showing decline in count (from 30% to 38%), motility (from 72% to 90%), progressive motility (from 82% to 96%), and morphology (from 23% to 58%) (p
