Abstract
Using CaO–SiO2–MgO-refining slag containing 12 to 16 mass pct MgO greatly relieved the erosion of ladle lining and has little effect on the composition of deoxidizing products MnO-SiO2 inclusions in tire cord steel. Entrapped CaO–SiO2–MgO inclusions in steel cannot be perfectly deformed in hot rolling, but they can be crushed into very small pieces less than 3 μm in cold drawing of wires. Hence, the tire cord steel refined with new CaO–SiO2–MgO slag is with excellent cold drawing ability.
