•SAEW sprayed alone method was selected as the best method on manure and Salmonella-contaminated eggs.•The cuticle of the egg was damaged by disinfection, and it will lead to bacterial invasion.•The combination of CS and PT coating effectively prevented the bacterial invasion of SAEW-disinfected eggs.•The combination of SAEW and CS + PT coating inhibited the quality of eggs from deteriorating during storage.
