摘要
This study was aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of the combination of lycopene and iodized whey milk protein (ISMP) against benign prostatic hyperplasia. BPH was induced by surgical castration followed by a course of subcutaneous injections of prolonged testosterone at a dose of 25 mg/kg (7 injections every other day). Rats with induced BPH were injected daily for 4 weeks with either sunflower oil (positive control) or a combination of lycopene and ISMP by gavage. The effectiveness of treatment was assessed by the prostate weight and the prostatic index (ratio of the mass of the prostate and/or its lobes to the bodyweight). The combination of lycopene and ISMB demonstrated a pronounced therapeutic effect, which was manifested in a decrease in the value of these indicators. The research on the positive effects of this combination is recommended, particularly as a promising component of new functional foods.
