•This report presents an atypical attachment of the petrosphenoidal (petroclival) ligament.•The dual origin of the petrosphenoidal ligament to the clivus and internal carotid artery's posterior genu was described.•This anatomical variant can potentially affect various skull base procedures where the ligament is manipulated.
