Abstract
A cohesive work environment and social interaction are key factors to increase the performance and productivity of employees in the organization. Workplace ostracism has been a widespread concern of the researchers as it creates a hostile work environment resulting in low morale and low-performance level of employees in the organizations. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of workplace ostracism on job performance. This study also addresses the knowledge gap by examining the role of job satisfaction as a mediating variable. We have collected data through a primary survey. The sample size is 300 consisting of millennial generation employees working in food processing industries in India. The present study reveals that job satisfaction acts as a mediator between workplace ostracism and job performance of the Indian cohort of generation Y employees in food processing industries. It is evident from the findings that workplace ostracism negatively affects job satisfaction, which decreases employee's job performance. Based on the results of the study, theoretical and practical implications were identified and discussed.
