•Temperature in a lower range has little effect on the phase assemblage of MOC.•Phase 5 is not predicted to form at higher temperatures.•phase 3 and brucite become stable at higher temperatures.•MOC samples with the optimal proportion cured at higher temperatures experience volume shrinkage.•The volume of MOC with a high content of H2O or MgCl2 expands with increasing curing temperature.
