A Novel Magneto-Electric Dipole for Wideband Application

A novel wideband magneto-electric dipole is comprised of a couple of shorted patches with rectangle hole in vertical direction and a planar dipole placed horizontally. A r-shaped feed line with a circular metal sheet is employed to feed the element, whose horizontal part resonance at 1.4GHz. Four short planes connected with ground ensure high gain and less back radiation. There is an impedance bandwidth of 98.8% for VSWR≤2 (1.31 to 3.78 GHz) from the simulation results. This type of antenna has stable gain radiation pattern with low cross polarization and almost similar E- and H-plane radiation pattern. Moreover, a maximum realized gain of 8.6dBi and an average gain of 8dBi over the operating bandwidth is realized.
