The future of non-metropolitan regions in the European Union. A member-state comparative report

This study proposes a comparative analysis of the diversity of European non-metropolitan regions. It compiles the results of an exhaustive empirical analysis of the main socio-economic variables at the level of the NUTs 3 regions (Common Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics). It takes as its starting point the EU DG Regio regional typology which differentiates between intermediate and predominantly rural regions, and for each of these, between accessible and remote regions.
