•Constructing a favorable osteogenic microenvironment for MSCs through the coupling of MVS and BCP ceramics.•MVS coupled with BCP ceramics endow DFBGs with functional activity via activating Piezo1-ERK1/2 and FAK-ERK1/2 signaling axis.•DFBGs exhibit better cell viability and osteogenic differentiation in vitro.•DFBGs promote new bone formation in situ compared with BGs in rat femur bone defect model.
