Development of an online cancer data collection and processing tool for population-based cancer registries in a low-resource setting: The CanDCap experience from Golestan, Iran

•We developed the CanDCap for data collection and processing in cancer registries.•It was designed based on internationally accepted standards for cancer registration.•It has been used by the Golestan Population-based Cancer Registry (GPCR) since 2018.•The user interaction satisfaction was acceptable (7.8 out of 9)•The CanDCap could resulted in improvement in data quality and timeliness of GPCR.
