Covalent-Crosslinking Irmof-3-Nh2-Pvc Ultrafiltration Membrane for Simultaneous Removal of Bisphenol a and Cd2+ Ions in Water

For the sake of coping with the technical challenge of simultaneous removal of multi-component pollutants under low pressure faced by membrane-based water treatment technology, a novel covalent-crosslinking IRMOF-3-NH 2 -PVC membrane with ultrafiltration and adsorption dual function was fabricated via phase inversion method. Performance of ultrafiltration and simultaneous removal of composite pollutants in water was investigated, the results indicated that with the addition of low content hydrophilic IRMOF-3-NH 2 , the IRMOF-3-NH 2 -PVC membranes displayed remarkable enhancement in anti-fouling property, mechanical property and adsorption property simultaneously. By adding the IRMOF-3-NH 2 (in the optimal percentage of 8 wt.%) into PVC, contact angle decreased from 95.8 ° to 68.2°, the pure water flux increased from 158.2 L/(m 2 ·h·bar) to 326.7 L/(m 2 ·h·bar), and tensile strength rose from 3.24 MPa to 3.83 MPa. What’ more, the retention of BSA, bisphenol A and Cd 2+ ions for IRMOF-3-NH 2 -PVC-8 membrane were 96%, 92% and 79%, respectively. In addition, the IRMOF-3-NH 2 -PVC-8 membrane was recycled using mixture solvent of ethanol and acetic acid, and still maintained a high retention capacity after 5 cycles, which confirms the reusability and stability of the covalent-crosslinking membrane. This study might provide some new insights into the fabrication of adsorptive ultrafiltration membrane for removal of multi-component pollutants.
