DISCOVERY OF OSTEOARTHRITIS ENDOTYPES VIA CLUSTERING OF BIOCHEMICAL MARKER DATA IN THE IMI-APPROACH COHORT

Purpose: Different clinical and molecular drivers characterize the different subtypes of osteoarthritis (OA) patients; however the exact driving factors are not known. Thus an important challenge is to how to stratify patients to ensure that the right patient is treated with the right drug both in drug development and clinical practice. Biochemical markers reflecting joint tissue turnover and inflammation were measured prospectively in the IMI-APPROACH cohort (http://www.approachproject.eu/ ) and analysed using a machine learning approach to study OA dominant phenotypes driven by endotype-related clusters and discover the driving features and their disease-context meaning.
