Academician Detchko Pavlov (1930-2017) an appreciation of his life's work in battery science

This review is dedicated to Academician Detchko Pavlov, an outstanding electrochemist and scholar of global recognition through his highly individual approach to the prime subject of his studies - the Lead-Acid Battery. With publication in 2022, five years will have elapsed since the world of science lost one of the leading au-thorities on the lead-acid battery. Academician Detchko Pavlov passed away on 27.08.2017. After an appro-priate interval, it is perhaps timely to reflect on the enormous contribution he made to enhancing the performance of this longstanding battery technology. Professor Pavlov authored an enormous number of original papers and patents. After a brief pen-portrait of his life, this review highlights his contributions to the Tree of Knowledge in each of the main aspects of the lead-acid battery as they became the focus of attention in a world of ever-evolving technology.
