•3-D electrical resistivity model generated for the Qulong-Jiama district.•Partial melt fractions and the viscosity of the mid-lower crust are constrained.•Conductive features are attributed to multi-level partial melt reservoirs and channels.•A spatial relationship exists between these features and Miocene Cu deposits.•The crustal rheology exerts a major control on the distribution of ore deposits.
