Experimental study on packed-bed thermal energy storage using recycled ceramic as filler materials

•Packed bed thermal energy storage is studied experimentally with recycled materials.•Thermal performance of Rethink Seramic – Flora compared to alumina.•Full charge-discharge and partial cycles were studied.•Thermal exergy efficiency increases with flow and decreases with cycles.•Net exergy (thermal and pressure drop) shows similar results for the two materials.
