Performance evaluation of a dynamic wall integrated with active insulation and thermal energy storage systems

摘要
•A wall system is integrated with thermal energy storage and dynamic insulation system to actively charge and discharge stored thermal energy.•An active insulation system is designed to work by controlling the water loop enclosing a rigid foam insulation.•The dynamic insulation range can be lowered as low as 0.027 m2K/W (0.155 ft2•°F•hr/BTU) and its highest R-value is only lower than by 2% from its equivalent rigid foam insulation.•A heat flux as high as 81.92 W/m2 was transferred to the wall from the indoor air during discharging.•The wall surface temperature was lowered by up to 10 °C from the room temperature.
