•Tin monoxide can be densified (∼ 90 %) by low temperature Cool-SPS processing.•Demonstrated for both conventional SnO and reactive tin(II) oxyhydroxide precursors.•Starting precursor powder impacts processing conductions, final microstructure.•Resulting ceramic transport properties controlled by microstructure.
