Comparisons of three scaling up methods to estimate stand transpiration of a xerophytic shrub (Salix psammophila) in northern China

•The effects of different scaling up methods for estimates of stand T were explored.•Daily stand T differed according to the method used for the estimation.•Cross-sectional area appeared to be the most suitable basis for scaling up.
