Abstract
•Intramolecular hydrogen bonding played an important role in the solvent resistance of polymeric membranes.•Intramolecular hydrogen bonds were constructed in polyurethane membranes by functionalizing with special amino alcohol compound.•Solvent has certain impact on type and proportion of hydrogen bonds in PVA membranes.•There are synergies or contradictions between the effects of intramolecular hydrogen bonding and other factors on solvent resistance.•The obtained PU membranes showed good impermeability to water vapor, oxygen and chloride ions, which could be used as impermeable membranes.
