Abstract
•Doping of 0.1 at.% Y inhibits surface crystallization of a melt-spun Fe87Hf5B8 ribbon.•The annealed Y-doped alloys form a uniform and fine nanostructure in the whole ribbons.•The Y-doped nanocrystalline alloys exhibit reduced Hc but maintain high Bs.
