Abstract
•The overall heat treatment quality of the 35CrMo steel cylinder was quickly evaluated theoretically and experimentally.•The residual stress of the cylinder was quantitatively characterized by the relative magnetic field indexes.•The structural-mechanical performance of the cylinder was visually described by the the magnitude of coercive force.•The magnetic parameters changes were verified by metallographic and Leeb hardness test.
