•We evaluated reliability and validity of isometric tests in people with MS (PwMS).•Isometric tests can reliably evaluate upper and lower extremity function.•Highest external validity is found for the variables of brief force pulse protocol.•Rate of force relaxation scaling factor can explain 50% of variance in walking speed.
