Two-dimensional mapping of the ultrasonic attenuation and speed of sound in brain

•The ultrasonic properties of sheep brain, as an organ, are heterogeneous.•The heterogeneity for frequency slope of attenuation is much greater than that for speed of sound.•The frequency slope of attenuation of white matter is significantly greater than that of gray matter.•The speed of sound of white matter is not significantly different than that of gray matter.•The frequency slope of attenuation and speed of sound are independent of cardinal plane.
