Classification of rice based on storage time by using near infrared spectroscopy and chemometric methods

•Feasibility of NIRS for distinguishing rice samples of one, two, and three years of storage was studied.•Principal components analysis was initially conducted for exploratory analysis.•Two classification models were built and compared for qualitative analysis.•KNN shows superior predictive ability.
