Abstract
•Supercontinuum generation can be controlled by introducing chirp to the pump beam.•The best supercontinuum in terms of broadening and efficiency, generated at zero chirp.•Positive and negative chirp exhibits different behaviors.•The peak power is independent of the sign of chirp.•Material dependency in the peak shift observed for supercontinuum generation.•Rare earth doped samples don’t show any peak shift under negative chirp.
