•Qingchengzi and adjacent areas at Liaodong have a high exploration potential for concealed gold mineralization.•Gravity and magnetic signatures used to locate faults, basement and Mesozoic intrusions.•Concealed contacts between granites and Precambrian metamorphic rocks are identified.•Gold deposits are controlled by structural intersections and lithological contacts.
