•Pt nanoflowers with an enhanced electrochemical active surface area.•Synchronized redox- double-layer charge storage in PANI/Pt nanoflower.•XRD and XPS showed dual amorphous and crystalline properties.•Supercapacitor exhibited the specific capacitance of 926 Fg−1.•Charge-discharge studies showed good cyclic stability and coulombic efficiency.
