Abstract
Understanding the biology of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) is currently the focus of a massive research effort. iPSCs are gaining more and more interest in light of their use as highly informative in vitro model system to understand the pathophysiology of poorly known genetic disorders and perform drug screenings, and of their use in personalized medicine. iPSCs can be the source of 3D organoid structures, whose interest is growing for their potential application in the field of regenerative medicine. This chapter discusses current knowledge on the nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton features of iPSCs, which are particularly relevant in the context of stem cell aging and cellular differentiation. In particular, we focus on the relevance of the cytoskeleton in neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration.
