摘要

•Freshwater planarians are unique organisms of growing interest for ecotoxicologists.•No information exists on biochemical and metabolic responses of planarians to PAHs.•PAHs exposure elicit metabolic and biochemical interactions, being B[a]P the most toxic.•Increased energy expenditure supported antioxidant defences to cope with PAHs toxicity.•Decreased LPO suggest planarians extreme stress response possibly due to cell lysis.
