7 Clues to Kanashi prehistory 2: loanword adaptation in verbs

In this chapter, we extend the investigation of common loanword adaptation patterns noted in Kanashi and Kinnauri to the verbal domain, where both languages use dedicated transitivity-signalling morphology exclusively on Indo- Aryan loan verbs. In the same way as with the nominal adaptive markers, we investigate the distribution of this adaptive mechanism in related and neighboring languages in the western Himalayas, and we also discuss possible sources for the verbal adaptive markers.
