Application of Plasma for Refierny Process

Recently, various applications of plasma have been reported in various fields such as combustion, water treatment, pollutant removal, and fuel conversion (reforming) and so on. Various fields of application and types of plasma are determined according to the physical and chemical properties to be utilized from the plasma. As the technologies for controlling the plasma generating conditions and characteristics are developed, the field of applications can be expanded. In this presentation, the applicability of plasma to the refinery process or chemical process for converting low-value or waste hydrocarbon materials to other value-added and high-value materials will be introduced together with case studies of practical applications. In particular, the technology of converting by-products of chemical process, such as flare gas, tar, and green oil, which has been discarded or disposed despite the cost of disposal into Olefin or value added material through the Plasma refinery process will be introduced. Considering the refinery process can remove the cost of disposal and make additional value from it, Plasma refinery process can be expected to overcome the issues of cost for the generation of the plasma resulting in the feasibility of application in chemical plant.
