•Our study developed Go-PLL complexes as novel modification nanomaterials for BMP-2 delivery.•GO-PLL/BMP-2 nanoparticles controlled BMP-2 release velocity and prolong release period.•GO-PLL/BMP-2 nanoparticles significantly promoted osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and exhibited favorable bone formation ability.
