Preparation and characterization of high performance hydrochar for efficient adsorption of drugs mixture

•Preparation of an eco-friendly high performance hydrochar based on loquat cores.•The adsorbent prepared is rich in oxygenated groups thanks to the hydrothermal treatment assisted with citric acid.•High adsorption capacity of a mixture of Diclofenac (95.88%), Antipyrine (76.21%) and Prednisolone (80.29%).•Efficient regeneration accomplished with the ultrasonic assisted Fenton process.
