Abstract
•We set up a design guideline of lattice materials with mechanical coupling using the micropolar elasticity and the lattice symmetry.•We find a new 2D lattice with an axial-bending coupling where we also quantify its size effect using a continuum model of micropolar elasticity.•A non-centrosymmetric achiral square lattice can provide an axial-bending coupling.
