Abstract
Particle velocity profiles of a TiB2 ceramics under one-dimension plate impact were measured up to 45 GPa. The Hugoniot-elastic limit of TiB2 was determined to be 8-9 GPa. Mechanical damage induced three-wave structures were only observed for shock stress above similar to 31 GPa. TiB2 sustains large shear strength beyond the Hugoniot-elastic limit, which leads to the abnormal downward bending of Hugoniot in the plastic region. (c) 2022 Author(s).
