Hsc70 mediated disaggregation of α-synuclein fibrils

Molecular chaperones are key players in counteracting aberrant protein folding and as such maintain cellular protein homeostasis. In particular, members of the heat shock protein 70 family (Hsp70s) have a critical role in assisting protein folding, preventing protein misfolding and aggregation, and in the disaggregation of amyloidogenic fibrils. Amyloid fibrils are associated with a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease. By combining chemical kinetics with microfluidic measurements, we address the fundamental mechanism of the Hsc70 mediated disaggregation of α-synuclein fibrils.
